1. Are you pleased with "Buried Silence"? Can you say that it's similar to the preceding two Ice Ages albums? sure i am please, otherwise i would not have released it;-) well the sound is definitely more full and the frequencies are better balanced this time, but seeing it from the music i think not much changed. but i actually never intended to change much. there are hardly and bands making harsh, dark, slow electronic but yet melodic music so changing my style would not make any sense for me. if 1000 of bands would meanwhile copy my style i might think about changes, but as this is not the case there is no need to think about changing it. 2. Does it include any musical or lyrical conception and how difficult was work on it? Do you think it is better than This Killing Emptiness or not? in ice ages (as well as in all other musical projects where i am involved in) the first thing is always the music, only at the beginning the lyrics are added. so that task is rather to add suitable lyrics for the music, not contrary. as usual the lyrics are not written by me, but by grom (who already wrote lyrics for the last DVKE). the main difference this time was that i did not take lyrics from him and adapt them for the song, but send the unfinished songs to him so that he could write lyrics specially for the songs. 3. What's painted on the new album's cover? (it's similar to old corroded aviaengine - it looks so industrial) the main purpose of a cover is for me to create a good suitable mood. the more "opened" the cover motive is and the more space it leaves for personal interpretations the better. actually the cover is a foto which i used showing a concrete highway, with i later mirrored and manipulated in shape and colour so that it totally lost the connection to the original meaning and rather creates associations with cold futuristic times. 4. Are you pleased with all Summoning, DVKE and Ice Ages albums? Have you got any wishes to change/rerecord any of works? sure i am pleased, otherwise i would not have released them;-) if i would have any wishes to change anything i would have done it, cause we have total control over the final result;-) fortunately there are no limitations from napalm records concerning our albums. 5. Can you choose the best album of every project or the best of your own works particularly? well its always the last one for me naturally. thats logic cause the last album always is most close to my current taste. 6. What can you say about your creation process? Is it inpiration or you simply sit and write music? silenius and me are very different concerning that. while i get the main inspirations while sitting in my studio and dealing with new software synths, he gets rather inspriations from nature etc. for me the sound is the first thing that appears. if i have a nice sound i like to play around with it and sooner or later a melodie or bass line appears. once that happened the realisation of a complete song is just a matter of time. 7. Are there any differences between your creative work in Summoning and side projects? Are there any principal differences? first of all i dont call summoning as the "main" and the other as the "side" projects. just cause summoning is the most successfull one does not mean for me its the main one. for me they are all equal and its rather a result of the zeitgeist thats summoning tured out to be the most successfull one not any other. but there are differences of course. the difference between ice ages and summoning is mainly that summoning is a cooperation with silenius while i do the music of ice ages totally alone. the otehr difference is that i start each ice ages songs more from a rhytmic approach while summoning starts from basic chords. 8. Do you have any new sketches for the new DVKE's album? Are you planning any experiments with sound in this project? there are no new ideas concerning DVKE so far. but i dont think that i ever will include anything sound-experimental to that projects. tahts not the purpouse of that projects. ice ages is rather meant for that, while dvke is rather meant to create slow melancholic music based on orchestral sounds. i always take care that the borders between my projects dont get to thin. each project shall have a speciall purpouse and each song of each projects shall be clearly recognized as song of that particular project. 9. Who is the author of Ice Ages covers? i always do the digital manpulations, like getting the right color mood etc, but the pictures i use are different. as described before the foto of the last album was taken from a fotographer who made a highway foto, while the cover of "this killing emptiness" is based on an oil painting of the painter "beksinki", which was originally rather in warm, red and orange colors. 10. Who is Christian Sinn, who painted the Innerfleeve castle to Dol Guldur booklet and where is this castle placed? Christian sinn was a close friend of us from the surrounding of abigor and he was doing the castle inlet of the dol guldur CD, he also did the second cover of the whispers in the shadow CD "Laudanum" in which protector plaid the bass guitar. The castle is just a fatansy castle. There is no real background. Meanwhile we dont have any contact to christian CD anymore. 11. Who is Doris. B., "Unto A Long Glory" is dedicated to? Doris b. was was a close friend for a short time in the year of dol guldur. She came from the surrounding of the napalm crew, but meanwhile we dont have any contact to her as well. |
